The defining characteristic of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is that he always turned outward with love and compassion for others during times that we would normally turn inward with self pity or selfish desires.  Jesus has asked us to be like him.  (3 Nephi 27)  We can close this gap between Jesus and ourselves by being “converted unto the Lord.”  (Alma 23)

Doubt Not, But Be Believing

Doubt not, but be believing (Mormon 9:27).
When searching for answers to gospel questions, this must be your motto. God requires that we come to Him with a sincere heart (Moroni 10:4). Only then will the Holy Ghost testify of truth to you. And then He will testify of the truth over and over.

I, personally, experience this almost every time I read the Book of Mormon. I already know the Book of Mormon is true with all my heart, but in God’s great love and mercy for me, I am given additional confirmation of that truth each time I read.

Be believing! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church.

Finding Evidence that God Exists

I recently watched a debate between a scientist and a religious leader. The scientist laid out his case of “evidence” that the religious leader was wrong and that the scientist’s worldview was correct. The scientist, basically, said that he found no evidence that God exists.

My mind went to the Book of Mormon when Jacob was teaching the Nephites about wisdom. He said, “O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish. But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God” (2 Nephi 9:28-29).

Remember the Book of Mormon

Remember what Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts than by any other book” (History of the Church, 4:461).

The translated title page to the Book of Mormon states its purpose is “ ... the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God.”

Be Believing

Nephi's bands are loosed after prayer.
I have often pondered the story in 1st Nephi when Nephi had been tied up by his brothers and they had decided to kill him and leave him in the wilderness. Nephi prayed with faith that he might have the strength to “burst these bands with which [he was] bound" (1 Nephi 7:17). I always imagined something like in a movie where the hero, triumphantly, yanks his hands apart and the chords fly off of his wrists!
